Chocolate Hazelnut Spread

Simplicity never tasted so good. All you need is four ingredients to create this creamy, dreamy DIY Chocolate Hazelnut Spread.

This simple recipe is very versatile and pairs well with a variety of ingredients. You can spread it on toast, fruit and crackers or put a dollop on your oatmeal and smoothie bowls. You can even use it as a chocolaty binder for delicious energy balls made from nuts, seeds and dried fruit.

To get started, roast hazelnuts in the oven for about 10 minutes. This will release their natural oils and add more flavor to the spread. Once their finished roasting, peel off most of the skins by rubbing the hazelnuts in a clean kitchen towel. Throw them in a food processor and blend until you form a creamy nut butter. Add cacao powder, maple syrup and vanilla extract to the mix and continue blending until smooth.

  • 2 cups hazelnuts
  • 1 Tbsp. cacao powder
  • 1 Tbsp. maple syrup
  • ¼ tsp. vanilla extract


  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Roast hazelnuts on a baking sheet for 10 minutes to release natural oils.
  3. Peel off most of the hazelnut skins by rubbing them with a clean kitchen towel.
  4. Blend nuts in a food processor until a creamy butter forms, about 6-10 minutes.
  5. Add in cacao powder, maple syrup and vanilla extract. Blend until well combined.
  6. Enjoy on toast, oatmeal or straight off the spoon!
